MISSIONS & COMMITTEES

Diversity Is Our Strength

The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC) is a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and is governed by a board of ethnically diverse people from both the public and private sectors. The mission of MAC is to increase Philadelphia’s share of the multicultural convention and tourism markets and to ensure the inclusion of Philadelphia’s multicultural communities into every aspect of the hospitality industry.

MAC works through the following committees to accomplish its mission:

 • Arts & Entertainment Committee- the primary functions of the committee are:

o Provide overall direction for establishing Philadelphia as a “nightlife” destination
o  Produce a product development plan focusing on the creation and marketing of new and existing nightlife product and experiences
o  Identify sponsorship opportunities to support related MAC music and entertainment initiatives
o  Serve as a conduit for Philadelphia’s hospitality leaders to the music and entertainment industry

• Board Development Nominations & Bylaws Committee- the primary functions of the committee are: 

o Recruit & review board nominees
o  Conduct mid-year and year-end evaluations of board members
o  Orientation of new board members
o  Develop continuing education concepts for board
o  Review & revise by-laws as needed

• Heritage Tourism Committee- this committee’s mission is to encourage those involved in Philadelphia’s tourism industry to offer an authentic and inclusive representation of the region’s multicultural people, places, objects, and activities. The primary functions of the committee are:

o Review issues related to product development for the multicultural tourism market
o Serve as the experts for the MAC as it relates to historical interpretation and relevance in the tourism industry

• Hospitality Marketing Committee- the primary functions of the committee are:

o Operate as a sales committee for groups PCVB/MAC are working on bringing to the city 
o  Attract new convention business to Philadelphia
o  Identify new groups for client target list
o  Develop marketing strategies for groups identified in Special Market sales funnel
o  Develop the role of the MAC Board in selling Philadelphia


• Membership & Education Committee-
the primary functions of the committee are:

o Re-evaluate MAC’s membership program
o Establish goal to increase multicultural membership for the PCVB
o Establish a MAC membership goal
o Serve as a networking group for people of color in the industry with the intent of increasing MAC’s membership
o Educate the hospitality industry about the cultures we seek to bring to Philadelphia as visitors and conventioneers
o Serve as the advisors for the MAC/GPHA Hospitality Education Day (Career Fair)
 

• Annual Luncheon Committee- the primary functions of the committee are:

o Provides suport to MAC staff
o Creates an annual, memorable event that honors individuals and organizations that are supportive of MAC's mission

 

• Executive Committee

o Meets bi-monthly to provide overall guidance of MAC's mission and initiatives
